Sorry, am I boring you?

Sorry, am I boring you?

Apparently Elon Musk has an approach whereby he walks away from any conversation that he is finding boring. Supposedly, this is on the grounds that the boring person is actually the rude person by subjecting him to a boring conversation.

There’s obvious merit in being able to abruptly terminate any conversation or meeting that we find boring.

Goodness knows, I am sure we have all sat through meetings that have felt interminable and where productivity is in the negative.

But I wonder where it all ends up?

Whether our conversations will be like speed dates, where you have 10 seconds to impress someone with your brilliant idea before they move on?

What about the ponderers amongst us? The ones that ruminate? The ones who stay quiet but for that gem of genius?

And what about the fact that a conversation is a two way engagement. If its boring – then both parties have a role to play in that. It is so easy to blame the other person without looking at our own part to play.

Finally – what about good manners and grace? In our rush to become so super speedy and clever and productive, this seems to have fallen by the wayside..
