We know that the calendar new year starts on the 1st January each year. But for most of us, we are mid way through a holiday of some description and the new year feels more like a celebratory party date than anything else.
Being asked for advice can be flattering. But it can also mean we are constantly in rescue mode. And we’re not really doing the other person any favours. The other person has limited buy in to our solution and very little growth or learning. Note though.. Listening, asking questions, being curious.. It’s hard.. much much harder than saying our piece.

So, if you’re thinking about coaching for you or your team, it pays to have a few coffees first. There are so many different styles, personalities and approaches available. Without doubt, there will be a best fit.
We know that contagion of emotions is real. So if you’re coming into work and trying to lead your team whilst your life is falling down around you, it’s very likely that sense of panic and disarray will transfer to your team too. So, this stuff matters – both for you and for the impact it has on those around you.
There’s been plenty published on the insidious imposter syndrome and how it can play with your head with thoughts like those above.
Research shows that making just one decision, reduces the glucose (or blood sugar) available in the brain to make the next decision. The brain doesn’t differentiate between how important the decision is – just that you’re depleting the supply of available energy. This means that by the time we have got to the point in our working day where we actually need to make an important decision, we’ve already used up some portion of our daily allocation.
Coaching is at its heart an inherently positive process – to build on strengths and move forward. The coach must believe that the person is capable and hold the space in a way that allows the counterpart to trust and grow.
